Causes and Prevention of Yeast Infection

When a form of fungus or yeast known as Candida Albicans overgrows, people get yeast infection. Vagina, lower bowel, and the skin are the areas where this yeast or fungus is found. No symptoms of any kind will appear as long as our immune system remains healthy, or if the growth of Candida Albicans is insignificant. We have to keep in mind the fact that this yeast is an opportunist and, given a chance, its sudden growth is sure.

In many cases, excessive intake of alcohol or overeating can become the reason for yeast infection since the body's metabolism will be disrupted which would cause an increase in blood sugar level. When we deal with the causes and prevention of yeast infection, we have to take care of our food and avoid alcohol at all since unhealthy lifestyle invariably leads to metabolic disorders. Studies prove that one of the main reasons of this type of infection is the metabolic disorder in our body. If we consume healthy food and avoid alcohol, yeast infection can be prevented.

Hormonal imbalances in our body are also considered among the main reasons to cause this yeast infection. As women are more prone to hormonal imbalances, they become victims of this infection most of the time. Hormonal imbalance in women is more common due to the use of birth control pills, pregnancy, unhygienic menstrual periods, and menopause. When the opportunist yeast finds the conditions favorable, it attacks and grows.

Yeast infection, or Candida infection, can also be transmitted through . Sexual intimacy with infected people is certainly another importance cause of the yeast infection. People who are more careful in such intimate acts, and do not look for the fulfillment with those who are stranger in bed, will remain safe from this infection.

Whatever the reason is for being infected with this yeast, its treatment has to be done fast, otherwise, it can become very harmful. Once the symptoms are detected, consult a doctor to control this infection.

When we talk about the preventive measures, we definitely find ways that can prevent yeast infection from happening. Some of the preventive measures are, eat healthy foods and maintain fitness with regular exercise; avoid wearing tight fitting clothes for longer time; as moist environment encourages yeast growth, keep the vaginal area dry, especially after swimming or taking a both, dry it thoroughly; douching and products like feminine sprays, scented oils, soaps, bubble baths, etc, can sometimes cause irritation in the vagina and provide an opportunity for the yeast to attack and spread, so be careful while using such items; wear only cotton underwear; wash and wipe yourself after a bowel movement or urinating, otherwise there is chance of the yeast transferring from the rectum to vagina; avoid using scented or colored toilet paper, tampons, pads, etc; use unscented pads and tampons, and maintain good hygiene during the menstrual period; consume more yogurt, decrease intake of sugar; and so on.

If you find any symptoms of yeast infection, like redness and itching of vagina, pain during intercourse, burning in urine, white odorless discharge, etc, consult a doctor immediately.
